Bump Top was officially released for Mac on January 22nd, 2010 and immediately took off right on launch day. Not only does it make a small monitor more convenient and easier to use, but it makes desktop organization extremely fast, easy, and fun!

I remember back a few years ago now, when Bump Top had just been released for Windows and it was a huge hit! People were ranting and raving over this little program. Some people didn’t know how such a simple, yet complex, idea could make such an impact for every type of user. I never actually downloaded Bump Top for Windows, because I already had a large monitor and I didn’t see the need for it, I just figured it was going to use up more resources in the background and slow down my computer, but now that I have a 13″ Unibody MacBook, I see the need and Bump Top was here to fill it!

Bump Top Icon

BumpTop basically takes all the features you already have with your desktop and combines them together with its own little twist to each. Most programs that try to do this, or something similar, usually fail miserably, but I have to give Bump Top props, because I couldn’t find anything that I would change that hasn’t already been done. To list a few of the features, Bump Top makes icon selection much easier and more precise, it offers the ability to stack icons, as well as group icons in many different designs.

Bump Tops main eye catcher is the 3D desktop environment it has to offer. You can have up to 5 different desktop wallpapers and to put it simply, you have 5 separate desktops all conveniently woven into one. I’m sure at this point, if you haven’t looked at the program, you are extremely confused as to what this all means. Well, if that’s the case, check out the video above and look for yourself as I capture my first reactions to all that BumpTop has to offer!

Overall, BumpTop is extremely user-friendly and easy to pick up and start using. It has lots of features included in the free version and I think they even put too many features in the free version, because I don’t even see the need to upgrade to the full version due to the access to so many tweaks and tools included. Bump Top is a must have for anyone with a laptop, but for a desktop, I don’t really see the need, but it definitely helps with organization and even does it with some style, so for you desktop users, the choice is yours, but I would recommend you give it a shot no matter what kind of computer you’re using.

Acer 23″ Monitor (Unboxing)

One thing I’ve been wanting for quite a while now is another 23″ monitor to go along with my 23″ Hannspree monitor I received for my birthday a couple years back and I can now proudly announce that this wish has come true!

Firstly, I want to start off and ask the question, how many of you geeks out there have dual monitors? Or maybe more than two, but how many use at least two monitors for their computer?

Ok, with that answered, lets get started, I’ve wanted dual monitors for years and years, I have always been intrigued with how it works and have always wanted to hook them up for my desktop. Now that I have two 23″ monitors, there’s just one small problem. I need to get a video card with two video outputs, because right now I only have one, so I’m currently just using one monitor for my desktop and the other for my PS3.

That really has nothing to do with the unboxing, but it’s related content because there’s not much to say about an unboxing anyway. Also, I wanted to quickly ask how many of you think you wouldn’t be able to stand having two monitors that weren’t the exact same size and model? I didn’t think I could stand that and I’m still not sure if I will be able to, I guess we will find out when I get that video card and hook them both up to the PC, because for right now, I’m not using them together as one, they’re being used on two separate systems.

That’s it for the unboxing, keep checking back for the full review, I can’t guarantee when that will be released, but it will come out eventually. I have a lot more unboxings from Christmas to release to you guys and then I have to put out the full reviews for all of those products as well, so I have my hands full, but don’t worry I’m working on it!

I want to start off firstly with saying, if you haven’t purchased a dual shock 3 controller for your PS3, I would not purchase the FPS Freek until doing so. The reason being, the size of the nubs on the standard Playstation 3 controller is larger than that of those on the dual shock 3 controllers, so the fit isn’t so great on the standard controllers. But if you have an Xbox 360, for once you have the upper hand, because as far as I know, they fit nice and snug, as they’re designed to.

Just encase you weren’t paying attention to the last paragraph, the FPS and Speek Freek nubs work for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstaion 3, so if you have one or the other there’s no difference, they will fit both controllers and if you have both, you can interchange them between controllers without any fuss.

Kontrol Freek

I’ve had a lot of people ask me what exactly the FPS and Speek Freek controller add-ons even do, well to put it simply, it uses leverage to give you more sensitivity, which almost always equals a better overall gaming experience. I personally can’t stand games with low sensitivity and on most of those games I tend to not play very well as a result, but I’m very happy to announce that the FPS Freeks fix this problem and they fix it with great style.

So just encase you haven’t put two and two together yet, the FPS Freek controller add-ons are designed for first-person shooter games, and the Speed Freek add-ons are designed for racing games, but neither of them are limited to just those two genres of games, they both can be used for any type of game that’s on the market. I’ve tried using the Speed Freeks with a first-person shooter game, but I must say they were more of a hindrance than a help because the walls of the Speed Freeks are pretty high and get in the way of you trying to move from the analog nub to the d-pad and back again, but the FPS Freeks work with racing games, so no worries.

There really isn’t a whole lot to say about them, they are nice solid plastic add-ons and do their job just as intended. Some people were saying they were having trouble installing them onto their controllers, but I had no trouble at all. The only way I could see having an issue is if you were trying to install them on a standard PS3 controller, but other than that, installation is quick and easy.

One last question I was asked was, “If you were going to buy one or the other, which one would you recommend?”. My answer to that would be go for the FPS Freeks. The reason being that the FPS Freeks work with all game genres, but the Speed Freeks are difficult to use for, really any shooting game, but I would say to just purchase both because they’re cheap enough that even if you don’t get a whole lot of use out of them both, your wallet won’t notice the difference.

And that just about wraps up this review, but I just wanted to stop and say one last thank you to Anthony for answering all my questions and following through on getting me a set of each to review!

This is only an unboxing, it isn’t a full review, the full review will come out sometime later, so keep checking back for it.

From the use I’ve had out of it so far, I can say it makes an awesome addition to any room, office, bedroom, or pretty much anywhere that you want to make a little cooler. I won’t forget the first time someone came over and saw it, they said, “Woah! What is that thing? That looks awesome!”. And that is exactly the reaction every geek wants someone to say when they have someone come over, that is, IF they have anyone ever come over…

Block All Firefox Ads

I know I’m not the only one who hates going to a website and having ads all over the place getting in the way of you trying to navigate around the website and ruining the overall experience. This has bothered me for years and eventually, most people develop tunnel vision and just ignore them, well that works, but there’s a much easier way and it’s called AdBlock Plus!

AdBlock Plus is completely free and I recommend it for all levels of users!

The download link is below, so click the link to download and keep reading and I’ll walk you through how to set it all up and get started!

Once you’ve downloaded the plugin and clicked install, it should ask you for the region you’re in and then have a long list of websites that AdBlock has deemed unwanted. You can go ahead and sort through all these if you would like, or you could just leave them all checked like I do and as you come across websites that are blocked that you would like to unblock, just manually unblock them with a click of the mouse!

So, once you’re done installing AdBlock Plus and you’ve customized all your settings and restarted FireFox, you should see a red stop sign in the top right-hand corner of your browser. When the icon is red, it means it is enabled and blocking all ads on the web page you’re currently on. If you would like to temporarily turn it off, click on the small arrow to the right of the icon and it will give you a drop-down box that has an option at the bottom that says, “enable Adblock Plus” and a check mark next to it. Just click that option and the check mark will go away and the icon will turn grey meaning that it is now disabled. To turn AdBlock back on, just do the same thing you did to turn it off.

There is one more option you have in AdBlock as far as the status of the plugin. Instead of having to disable AdBlock every time you go to a specific website, you can turn it off for the entire domain or just a specific page on the domain and every time you go to there, AdBlock will automatically turn itself off until you leave that page. To do this, click the drop-down arrow again while you’re on the web page you want to do this on and click on either “disable on this page only” or “disable on insertwebsitehere.com” and each will do as they say.

There are other minor tweaks you can do, but they’re not main components, so you can mess around with the rest of them on your own time, but that’s how to set up AdBlock Plus so you will never see another ad again unless you choose to!
