7-In-One Dock Review

It’s 2010 and by now, if you don’t have an iPhone, you most definitely have an iPod or Zune that you bring along everywhere you go for those moments where you just need a little music in your life. One of the main reasons why iPods were invented though, were to replace the piles of CD’s that we all have lying around and even drag around in our cars so we can listen to music while driving. The only problem with this is there usually isn’t a very good place to put your iPod in the car where it wont slide around or fall off of inside your car, so that is where an iPod dock comes in. Now, not only does this dock hold your iPod, but it enables it to charge simultaneously, while also giving you an extra USB port for another device and just encase you don’t have an auxiliary port in your car stereo, you can always use the built in FM transmitter to play your music on your iPod or iPhone through your cars stereo!

Now that I’ve gone over the practicality for one of these car docks, let me get into the details of how this gadget is constructed and everything this little guy has to offer!

Lets start out with the adjustable dock part. The overall build quality is solid and doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart in your hands, this thing can take a bit of a beating before it falls apart. The dock was constructed in such a way that it gives enough room to fit just about any iPod or Zune with almost any case on it in the dock without too much trouble. Granted, it is a little snug with some cases, but it saves you the hassle of having to remove your case every time you want to dock your iPod.

Next we have the FM transmitter portion of this handy gadget. Basically, this is one of the best, if not the best working car FM transmitter that I have used. There is some occasional static, but is easily self-resolved within a couple seconds. There is no need to have to find a radio station that isn’t being used, you can just send the signal over a station that is already in use and the FM transmitter will play your music right over whatever is currently being played on that station with no interference.

The other included features aren’t so major, but they do pack a large punch. For instance, on the right side of the device is an additional USB port that can charge anything that has a USB cable for it. This is by far the most useful add-on that this gadget has to offer. Nowadays everything can be charged by a USB cord and therefore, this makes this extremely practical and useful for the everyday traveler. You also have an included iPod cable out the bottom of this device for you to charge your iPod or iPhone while it is docked so you don’t have to ever worry about it running out of battery juice.

I’m just going to quickly cover the overall way this gadget does its job and then this review is all wrapped up! So, one thing you need to absolutely check before purchasing this item, is where your cigarette lighter ports or port is/are. For some cars it is really close to the steering wheel and when you plug the dock in it ends up being right behind the steering wheel and can interfere with steering or other necessary parts of the car. You should also know before purchasing this car dock that the practicality of using this dock turned sideways does not work very well. It will hold your iPod while the car is stationary, but as soon as you start to make a turn or even go over a slight bump in the road, the dock spins upside down because of the weight on the end of the dock.

Other than those things, there is really nothing else that is problematic with this car dock and it’s great that it fits iPods and Zunes with their cases on! Overall, this device is great for most people, but you just need to make sure it will work with your car, because sometimes the compatibility just isn’t practical and you will need to look into another dock that works better with your cars internal layout.

Samsung 40″ TV Review

Okay, so you guys have been waiting for this review since back in December and it’s finally here! I got this for Christmas of 2009 and have been evaluating it up to this point trying to get a good feel for how I like it and how well everything works.

I’m going to start off and address the whole “Samsung clicking” issue. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t exist. I’ve never seen it, and it’s never happened to my TV the whole time I’ve had it. The one thing I do have to say about it is that if you do have this so called “Samsung clicking” you should make sure you have your cable box hooked up and set up correctly, because if you have not done this it could cause the box to click letting you know that something’s wrong, but it isn’t the actual TV doing the clicking.

Next up we have the picture quality. Now I couldn’t compare side by side with another LCD TV, but at the time, this TV was the top of the line model and it still shows. The picture and sound quality is crystal clear, the colors are vibrant and really pop well. The audio is sufficient, but if you really want to experience the full potential of this LCD TV, I would advise you to hook it up to some sort of sound system and then listen to how much it improves the overall experience of this television.

Samsung LE40B650

One thing I do want to mention about this particular Samsung LCD TV is that the menus are extremely well done. Not only are the icons crisp and clear, but they are also colorful instead of being boring and bland like other televisions on the market. The reason why I bring up the color issue is because I am an artistic person and love graphical design and like to inspect others work in such fields. Sometimes when color is added to icons, the color is too much, or is done in such a way that it just doesn’t fit, but this is not the case with the Samsung LE40B650 TV. I have no complaints whatsoever as far as the icons, menu layout, and icon designs.

Lastly we have the plugs and ports on the back of this beast. The Samsung LE40B650 has the power plug on the back left all by itself. In the middle there is a nice wire tie for keeping the wires from turning into a jumbled mess. Then in the back right there are all the ports, this LCD TV has 4 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, 1 VGA port, Component input and outputs, an Ethernet port, and lots of RGB and additional audio video ports. This being said, there is no need to worry about a shortage of ports in the back of this television. If you run out of ports on this thing, that probably means you just spend way too much time in front of it to begin with, so for the average and even the advanced user, there are plenty of ports for anything you could think of to plug into this Samsung TV.

Overall the layout, look, and feel of this TV is great. I love the overall theme of red and black and really appreciate the glass accent with the stand. With all of this taken into consideration, I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever, I can’t even think of anything I would change on it if I could. I see absolutely no reason why not to get this TV, so if you are in the market for a new 40″ flatscreen TV, this is by far the way to go!

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Review

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was released on November 10th, 2009 and had one of the biggest launches I can even remember! I didn’t go out for the midnight release, but I went out on launch day and was there 3 hours before launch in the morning and there was already 20+ people waiting there. After a half hour to forty-five minutes, I finally received my copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the PlayStation 3 and off I went to spend the rest of my week ranking up as fast as I could.

So before I start, I just want to say that I am a huge fan of Call of Duty 4, but I tried to keep this review from the point of view of someone who hasn’t played any of the Call of Duty games or someone who didn’t like the previous games in the Call of Duty series. I wouldn’t consider myself a Call of Duty fan-boy, but I was decided on buying Modern Warfare 2 back when Call of Duty 4 was released.

As most of you already know, I hardly ever buy games that don’t have some form of multi-player and usually will only buy games for the multi-player aspect, but I did actually play the entire single player campaign in Modern Warfare 2 and I must say that I did enjoy it even while playing through a second time. The story was solid, it was a little confusing at times, but it tied in fairly well with where the story left off in Call of Duty 4 and gave answers to many unanswered questions.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

The only thing I really didn’t like about the single player campaign in Modern Warfare 2 was that, for the most part, it was fairly easy on the hardest difficulty setting. Now, I didn’t say always, because that is definitely not true, there were times where I got pretty aggravated because there were just so many enemies at once on every side and it got me extremely aggravated, but other than that, the single player campaign was enjoyable and a refreshing new game to play through.

As far as the controller layout goes, it is exactly the same as in Call of Duty 4 and it was perfect for that game and is still absolutely flawless now. As far as I’m concerned, the control scheme options in COD4 and MW2 are the best layouts that have ever been put together for any game. There are a few other layouts that you can choose from and all of those layouts are perfect as well. Some of the optional layouts take a little while to get used to, but once you’re used to the new control scheme, you’re unstoppable!

Now comes the part that you all have been waiting for! My opinions on the multiplayer aspect of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2! So after putting in over 360 hours of online play, I think I can give a pretty good overview of what it’s all about. For the most part, everything is better balanced, the maps are laid out nicely, and most of the perks and weapon attachments work fine. This being said, there are always negatives to go along with the positives. Now, don’t get me wrong here, I’m not going to go over everything that is right in this game, because it would take too long. Instead, I’m going to try and go over some of the major flaws in the online aspect of this game, because I think this would be more helpful to potential buyers and/or previous owners.

Here we go, lets get started now on the negative aspects. As far as I’m concerned, one man army is the only questionable perk. On its own, there is nothing wrong with it, and it can be very helpful depending on your circumstance, but used in the wrong hands, it can be used in an extremely annoying way that makes anyone want to just smash their controller until the pieces stop flying.

Next up, we have death streaks. To just be up front and honest, being rewarded for dying, in my opinion, is just stupid. There should be no need for this if the spawn system was well though through, which, unfortunately, it most definitely is not, but if you’re using death streaks for anything but to combat the poor spawn system, then you have no excuse, you are a noob.

On that note, I might as well touch on the spawn system being as I already opened that can of worms. Without getting into a huge rant, basically the spawn system works well in most cases, but on the occasion, it works just about as well as an Xbox 360 with the RROD. It doesn’t help you at all, it causes you extreme aggravation, and it makes you want to throw your console out the window of a three story or higher structure. I’m pretty sure that that is pretty much all I have to say about that, because if you’ve played a decent number of games and game types, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

One other thing that works just like that is the matchmaking system. The game automatically chooses what room it’s going to put you in. This means, you could be put in a room that has 5 seconds left in the game and it is literally impossible for you to win. This really aggravates me to no end. There’s no easier way to ruin my excitement to just relax and play some Modern Warfare 2 then when I start it up and join a game on a team that is just getting raped. It’s not fun at all, in fact, most of the time if this happens I will just turn the PS3 off right then and there and do something else.

As far as weapons go, they are pretty much balanced now. In the beginning there was a huge dispute about the model 1887’s, but thanks to all the whiners, they got nerfed and now are about just as good as throwing a rock at someone. As far as the rest of the weapons go, they are all extremely powerful and if you don’t react quickly, you will die without even knowing what happened.

I think this concludes the mini rant on the multiplayer aspect of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and if you want to know any more about it, just buy it, because it is most definitely worth the money.
