Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a game released on the PC, the PSN, and Xbox Live Marketplace. The one thing I will mention straight up is that this absolutely IS NOT a Tomb Raider game. It wasn’t meant to be a Tomb Raider game and good thing, because it is nothing like the Tomb Raider you know.

Let’s first start off with what exactly this game is all about. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was developed with the multiplayer experience in mind and then had the single player worked into it with a few adjustments here and there to make it flow, but if you’re looking for a single player PSN or Xbox Live Marketplace game, I would recommend skipping this one because you’re going to miss a lot of this game without playing multiplayer.
One side note about multiplayer is that it is couch friendly, it is not internet friendly, so you won’t be able to play between two consoles. This is a fairly big complaint, due to the fact that this game was developed for it’s multiplayer, but I guess you can’t have everything in life right?

Anyway, graphically, this game is comparable to PSP games. The developers didn’t do their own twist on the graphics, or sort of make their trademark with them, they just went for the run of the mill, standard, boring graphics that many other PSN games use as well.
The best way to describe this game would be to call it a puzzle game aimed for the younger audience or casual gamer. The combat involved with the Guardian of Light is pretty weak. There really is no challenge involved, you can just take your time and easily avoid the enemies in almost every situation. Another large problem is the ‘bosses’ in this game are essentially the same exact enemy, except they have double or triple the health. They offer no new abilities or any more of a challenge, so if you’re looking to kick some boss, this is not the game for you.
The controls for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light are pretty simple and easy to get used to. The combat system is a little wacky sometimes and the ‘auto-aim’ attempt seems like it just doesn’t fit well, but overall it isn’t bad.
All in all, this is most definitely not a Tomb Raider game, but it is a nice little game for practicing speed runs and such. For me personally, I don’t think this game is worth the money, but seeing as Gamespot gave it away for free due to a glitch, I’ll take it!
Overall I would rate this game a 2.5 out of 5 and would only recommend this to someone who is looking for a puzzle game that isn’t really focused on challenging combat, but for your hardcore gamer, I would say this is a pass.
